Workshops
With increasingly violent and oppressive far-right activity both at home and abroad, we have made standing against the rise of the far-right a focus for our campaigns. Dietrich Bonhoeffer (following the teachings of Jesus) taught that we are called to speak up against injustice even if it is costly or is seen to go against the grain or societal norms. He fought against Nationalism in his time and we are inspired by his work in our current, not too dissimilar, social and political context. Our Faith in Action workshops, led by Faith in Action Project Worker Cat, have focused on the rise of the far-right and how the ideology fundamentally goes against the teachings of Jesus, inviting students to consider the impact of these harmful ideologies in their communities, what they can do to combat it and then creatively reflecting though poetry and re-framing the news headlines that so often victimise the most vulnerable in our society.
If you’d like to invite Cat to run a workshop at your SCM Community, get in touch by e-mailing catherine@movement.org.uk!
National Gathering
Our upcoming National Gathering follows the same theme with the title ‘Do Good to Those who Hate you: How do we Love our Far-Right Neighbour?’. What would it look like to take Jesus’s command to do good to those who hate us seriously? Where do we draw the line between loving our enemies, and protecting vulnerable people from harm; is it possible to do both? What seeds of goodness might grow in ground we’ve written off as barren?
Join SCM for our National Gathering Theology Day as we explore these questions and more on the theme of loving our neighbour in a time of rising violent far-right activity. This event is open to all SCM Members and those eligible for SCM Membership (current student or recent graduate), as well as members of Project Bonhoeffer.
Joining the Together Alliance
We are also pleased to have joined the Together Alliance (https://www.togetheralliance.org.uk) alongside various organisations and individuals coming together to bring a message of hope over fear.
We will be attending the march against the far-right on 28th March 2026 as part of the Better Story Christian Bloc. We are committed to social action and seek to be a radical voice for equality and justice – this work is a vital part of that.
If you’d like to join us at the march, get in touch!
